The Days

Composing the score for The Days, directed by Masaki Nishiura and Hideo Nakata, was a delicate balance—evoking the immense stress and unseen threat of radiation while maintaining a deep respect for the real-life events of the Fukushima disaster.

To achieve this, I relied primarily on electronic sources, which I played and re-amped through physical materials to create unique vibrations and textures, capturing an almost intangible sense of tension. These were interwoven with live instruments—strings, electric cello, voice, and piano—to add an organic, human dimension. The result is a score that feels immersive yet restrained, amplifying the weight of the story without ever overwhelming it.
